TV Blind Dates ~ Part 1

Courtney is out of town for a few days and new episodes from this week’s programming will wait patiently in the DVRs for her return. So in the interest of satisfying my own boredom I have put together this little time waster.

With the aid of an extremely handy online secret santa name drawing tool I have randomly put together 15 TV Blind Dates featuring some of our favorite characters. Ignoring current (or potential) romantic entanglements, as well as geographical and temporal barriers specific to their respective shows, let’s see show these characters match up! Here are our first five match-ups!

Temperance Brennan (Bones) and Mark Sloan (Grey’s Anatomy)

Common Ground: They are both doctors, and are extremely good looking. They are fans of sex without romantic entanglements. They are neither humble nor shy, and both are well off financially.

Possible Conflicts: Brennan’s literal way of thinking may become a bit tiresome to Mark, who is a fan of obscure references and insinuation. Mark may be a little too smug for Brennan’s tastes.

At the end of the date: 87% probability of a one night stand. 7% chance of a second date.

Sue Sylvester (Glee) and Phil Dunphy (Modern Family)

Common Ground: Phil was a cheerleader in college, so that should give them plenty to talk about. Plus they are both remarkably tall.

Possible Conflicts: Phil is much too weak of a man for Sue. She would destroy him physically and emotionally. But it sure would be fun to watch, right?

At the end of the date: 99% chance that Sue says “You think this is hard? Try __________. That’s Hard!”, 10% chance of this happening in a sexual circumstance.

Callie Torres (Grey’s Anatomy) and Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother)

Common Ground: They both have mighty fine singing voices (well, Sara does if Callie doesn’t). They both like the ladies, so they could always talk about that. Whenever Barney gets something broken by a jealous boyfriend or a particularly strong lady conquest, Callie could patch him right up.

Possible Conflicts: Callie’s more of a relationship kind of person. Also, I’m going to go ahead and call her mostly gay nowadays. Barney just came out of a real relationship with Robin, so he’s definitely going to be playing the field for a while.

At the end of the date: 0% chance of a second date, but Callie might be up to being his occasional wingman (wingwoman . . . winglady . . . whichever).

Olivia Dunham (Fringe) and Seeley Booth (Bones)

Common Ground: They are both highly skilled FBI agents (sometimes Olivia is classified as DHS, it’s so hard to keep track). They both look good in suits. They each spend a significant amount of their work day around dead bodies. They are both willing to bend the rules a little if it’s the right thing to do. Olivia is good with kids, so visits with Parker would go smoothly.

Possible Conflicts: Olivia’s work in the Fringe division lends itself to secrecy and government cover-ups, both of which Booth has major issues with.

At the end of the date: 67% chance that at least one of them will get called in to work before the date ends. Possibility of a second date, 25%.

Juliet Burke (Lost) and Gregory House (House)

Common Ground: They are both doctors. House would probably be able to figure out that pesky island pregnancy problem, but sending his team to break into the island’s apartment would probably prove tricky. They both command authority, and at first glance it’s difficult to tell whether they are a good or bad guy.

Possible Conflict: Juliet would put up with a certain amount of name calling and sarcasm (she was with Sawyer after all), but eventually he’d go too far and she would be forced to kick his ass.

At the end of the date: Likelihood that Juliet puts up with House for an entire date, only 35%.

The bread on our Glee sandwich - SYTYCD and Modern Family

So You Think You Can Dance

We’ve finally got our top 20, y’all! We’ve got a few surprises, a few early favorites, and a few “who the hell are you”s – so basically the usual. I’m not going to go through each person, because there’s 20 of them and that’s a lot of people, but I will point out a few highlights. We are so excited that we have been granted with not one, not two, but THREE TAP DANCERS this season! Our of the tappers we are most excited for Bianca – you finally made it, girl! We were really into Phillip when we first saw him at the LA auditions. We got worried that he’s been cut since we didn’t see him at all during Vegas week. Turns out that he was being a cocky douche to the judges and they saved up all of their footage to show just before they let him into the top 20. Major attitude. Hopefully he’s had that adjusted, because we liked his dancing. The other tapper who don’t remember at all, and the tiny bit of his audition that they showed wasn’t super impressive. Lucky for him the judges were really excited to make this the “Year of the Tap”, so he snuck on in.

We were disappointed to see that Paula got in but had to self-eliminate because she got a movie contract somewhere between Vegas week and when this was filmed. We were big fans of hers from the little we saw. Blurg to scary ballroom wife getting her spot. Was there really no one else more talented that you wanted to pick? What if their next choice was sent home like two people before they get to Paula and they were like “CRAP, is she still in the building? No? Okay fine, Ashleigh it is.” Luckily we still have Ellenore who we are also really pumped about (based on the small amount we’ve seen – hey, it was enough to make us remember her, which is more than we can say for some people).

Our early favorite is Russel, the crumper. He’s pure joy. Love him. Hope he doesn’t let us down!

Also, Mia – that is a hair choice! On a side note, is anyone else a little worried about Mia? What with the whole “things haven’t been going my way” reference she made, and with her not being on the show anymore (even though she’s totally welcome back). Courtney and I are worried she might be sick. Anyone else? We hope not!

Modern Family

Man, this show can’t lose. Not only is it hilarious, but it’s also kicking some ratings ass, so well done completely surprisingly awesome comedy! There isn’t one character that I don’t find hilarious in some way. Keep on rocking and delivering awesome quotes and GIFs!

“You’re really close to ruining gay for me.” Mitchell to Jay, when Jay asks if they would check him out in a gay bar.

“For the record, you’re smokin’ hot. One hundred percent. You’re totally my type. You’re dangerous. You’re gettable. You have a little cashola in your pocket….the whole kit and kaboodle.” – Cameron’s response to Jay

We've got TV coming out our ears!

After a massive amount of DVR catch-up, we are mostly up to date of viewing, but not nearly up to date on blogging! So here begins the completely random entries for shows in absolutely no particular order:

Modern Family
We really didn’t think we were going to like this, but recorded it just in case. The promos for it really didn’t do it justice. There were several things that made us very happy – enough to add it into our DVR prioritizer.

Flash Forward

Really trying to be the new Lost. We see where you’re going with this, guys. We were sufficiently weirded out by both Joseph Fiennes and Sonya Walger doing American accents, but we got over that pretty quickly. We’re interested. I have a feeling that I might get a little sick of seeing their flashes repeated ad nauseum (I feel like we saw him take a swig out of that flask about 30 times), but we’ll see. Our hopes are high, and we’re looking forward to Charlie  Dominic Monaghan.

Eastwick
We’re digging it so far. There were some moments that were extra piloty, and I personally find Rebecca Romijn’s acting a teensy bit forced every once in a while, but then she’ll do something to amuse me and I get over it. We enjoy Lindsey Price – hope this goes better than Lipstick Jungle for her. Jamie Ray Newman’s character is pleasing me a lot so far. Meanwhile, we wish Sara Rue would gain some weight back – we liked her better with some meat on her bones. And hey, Veronica Cartwright – you’re right, this totally has happened before! Like, oh say in 1987? You remember! Then again, you had a different character name then, but you were totally around.

Parks and Recreations

We’re still one week behind on this, but we did finally see the premier featuring a gay penguin wedding and surprise performance of “Parets Just Don’t Understand.” This episode was a vast improvement on last season. Let’s see if it can keep up the momentum

America’s Next Top Model
Short people continue to be short. Emphasized by making them walk next to really tall people. That’s about all I have to say about that.

Saturday Night Live
Meghan Fox is lame, Kristen Wiig is working overtime on the funny (we love her, so we’re fine with that), one of the new girls accidentally dropped the F-bomb, and Keenan Thompson continues to keep our All That childhood alive in a very good way. Rocky start to the season. Let’s see where this goes.

Project Runway
This was a really interesting challenge, finally! Designing a costumer for a character that they get to make up from a genre they got to pick in order of there names beign drawn. Poor Epperson – always at the bottom of the bag! He got stuck with Western, which everyone was avoiding like the plague. He, however, had one of the best designs, so well played! The judges (whom still didn’t include Michael Kors or Nina Garcia!) chose Nicolas as the winner, and while we liked the design, it wasn’t our favorite. He did, however, put the most thought into the character he created – so we’ll give him some credit there. We really don’t like him in general, but we aren’t too upset about the win. We ARE getting really annoyed that Gordanna keeps ending up in the bottom, even though her work has been spotless, at least from the technical standpoint. She seems to have trouble stepping thinking out of the box, but her clothes always look so nice! Ra’mon ended up being sent home, which is fair because his outfit was hideous. We were really worried, though, because we like his model a lot. Luckily, Models of The Runway shower us that after this challenge all of the designers are forced to pick a model other than the one they used on the previous challenge. This led to her being safe, and Louise’s model (who we hate) getting the boot, kind of by default. Phew! And FYI, I just read that Michael Kors will be back next week and Nina will be back later in October. Maybe then things will start making sense again!
